Chinese proverbs about money and personal finance

I came across this post when I was casually googling !!! Thought of re-producing as i was very much impressed with the proverbs :)

An inch of time is worth an inch of gold, but it is hard to buy one inch of time with one inch of gold - It can be interpreted as "time is more precious than money" and in many ways I find that to be true. I trade my time for money at work, but I cannot buy the time I spend at work back. It is sometimes used as a lament by older people who are well off financially when they mean that they can never buy back their youth.

Money could make demons turn grind stones - This proverb has two sides in its meaning. In one sense it means that if you have money you have the power to hire anyone you want to do your bidding. In the more negative usage, it is said when people commit crimes for money. For example, whenever there is some corrupt official being executed in China for embezzling, people would say this phrase to mean that money can lead people to do bad things.

Giving your child a skill is better than giving him one thousand pieces of gold - This is is akin to the proverb "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." However, the difference is that the Chinese version is more concerned about inheritances. I agree that teaching a child a marketable skill that he or she can use to generate income is much better than giving a child a set amount of money to spend.

If you save the green mountain, you will not worry about having no firewood to burn - On its surface this could be a statement about conservation and environmentalism, but it also means that as long as you are alive and producing something in the world, you do not have to worry about not being able to survive. One often hear this proverb in TV shows where heroes failed spectacularly in life and lost everything, but they still have their life and skills left so they can rebuild.

Chennai's Southwest Monsoon Rain

Chennai's Southwest Monsoon Rain - non-chennaites pls note - chennai's summer rain seldom lasts more than 8-10m. Hence, the heard felt tale !!! Chennai bloggers might co-relate better to this immediately :)
==========================================
Walking on the terrace
felt little chillness in air
heard small time thunder
sighted lightening

looked up
dark clouds covering the sky
oh Cool
is it going to rain finally?

Some drops came in
inhaled the deep manvaasanai
took shelter under water tank
hands are out in rain

wind started to blow
chasing out the
passing rain clouds
which took the wrong road to chennai skyline

New Theory

Old theories Gone with the Wind

Indian economy was booming from 1995 onwards. The second father of the nation according to me is Sri Narasimha Rao who started reforms with the then Finance Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh. It resulted in the other face of India and took us out of snake charmers, poverty kind of impressions of the developed world.

Now the old theories have become history due to continued economic boom.

1. Flats are costlier than land in many places

2. You join and retire with one Company employment

3. You go to foreign countries for lucrative high salary employment. (Many people who went could not buy any big land in their home towns due to raising land prices; people are saddled with lot of savings but unable to invest - post 2000 !!!)

4. One of the most happening consumer market is India for Cars, personal products like beauty creams, retail business etc... New opportunities like corporate multiplexes have collaspsed the existing theatre structure.

5. Top notch techno jobs are available in India & this made many people travel back to India from foreign countries for quality of work.

6. Civil engineers never had it so well. Construction projects were never as big as now like malls, lovely roads etc...

7. Night shift jobs due to BPO. Fresh grads are getting 6 to 15k per month.Who said we want only experienced guys?

8. Mobile phone subscribers are higher than land line subscribers !!!

9. Entrepreneurship at its best in India as so many normal people made it big in industrilisation. Once again, going to job is no longer lucrative option. By the way, the petti kadai takes only $ 10 or approximately Rs.500 capital to start !

10. Who said "savings" is the habit of indians!!! They are turning spend-thrifts for the last 6 - 8 years. India still saves around 35% and 60% of people do not have bank accounts !!!

Impotent Government

Communists live in the past glory of nationalisation, communist era; they dont care about globalisation, privatisation, free economy etc... One can understand their philosophy based on their rule of West Bengal - they didnt produce anything other than food and some millions of bata sandals !!!

Congress on the other hand, gone to worse - they lost their identity from Indira Gandhi period - exceptions are - a brief period of Rajiv Gandhi or the inimitable Narasimha Rao rule.

9th meeting of Left - UPA committe held today on Nuclear deal finalisation - they decided to meet again - to cut the story short, this is what is happening from last July 2007.

One party is impotent and the other party is still thinking that they are the attractive bride to date with !!!! Naturally, they didnt go high after a marathan foreplay sessions !!!!!
