Lyrics By Uma Devi
Sung By Chinmayi Sripada
Music by Govind Vasantha
Audio Label: Think Music India

Vasantha kaalangal
Kasandhu pogudhey
Enadhu dhoorangal
Oyadho

Spring season turned bitter
will my distance ever take rest ?

Uyirin dhagangal
Kidandhu saagudhey
Kadandha kaalangal
vaaradho

urge of life keeps dying
when will my past return?

Paarvayin paaramayil
Vaazhumo
En nenjam vaarthaigal
Kozhaipol
Yaazhirunthum raagamindri
yengi pogudhe

Life's turn for better does not occur
my heart does not utter the right words like a coward
like a musical instrument without the right chords
yearn or longs for

Vasantha kaalangal
Kasandhu pogudhey
Enadhu dhoorangal
Oyadho

Hmm

Kaadhalin vedhangalil
Nyayangal maari pogudhey
Ennangal meeriduthey
Vaa
Baarangal megam aagudhey
Paathaigal noorai thondrudhey
Unnodu ondragavae
Kathal nilavaa
Ada naan kaayava?
Kaalai oliyil
yemaravaa?
Vaa

path of love twists the rules at will
thoughts jumps over boundaries
come
burdens forms like a cloud above head
paths pops up in hundreds in a junction
to unite with you
in the moon of love
should I enjoy the light ?
and feel let down during the morning son?
come

Kaayum irulil,
Ada nee vaazhava
Vidiyumindha
kaalai namadhe, Azhagey

come, join me during this pitch dark night
the next sun rise will be ours, beauty

Vasantha kaalangal
Kasandhu pogudhey
Enadhu dhoorangal
Oyadho

Spring season turned bitter
will my distance ever take rest ?

Music Review of Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Music Review of Jab Tak Hai Jaan

Music by A R Rahman
Lyrics by Gulzar
Directed by Yash Chopra

Overall Rating - Impressive

01. Challa track sung by Rabbi Shergill - (5/5) - Simple song made addictive through Punjabi accented lyrics, singing style. The beauty of Rahman's arrangement lies in Ranjit Barot's energetic, rhythmic drumming and Guitarist Keba Jeremiah along with Keith peters for Bass. The song is sounding like a duet between vocal and shadow like accompaniments.

02. Saans track sung by Shreya Ghoshal & Mohit Chauhan - (4/5) - Nice duet, two layered music and ably sung by Shreya and Mohit. I feel lot of fans would have preferred Udit over Mohit !!!

03. Ishq Shava track sung by Raghav Mathur & Shilpa Rao - (5/5) - I would love to call this as "template dhink chik song" but Rahman brings the surprise element in arrangement of interludes without altering the rhythm and the eventual change happens at the end ! I predict this track will be the biggest hit post release of the movie.

04. Heer track sung by Harshdeep Kaur - (5/5) - rhythemic punjabi lyrics, naturally sung and composed. Saans track makes a fusionable entry into second stanza interlude.

05. Jiya Re track sung by Neeti Mohan - (3.5/5) - Neeti Mohan rocks big time in this track and enters the bollywood item songs market convincingly. Guitar tones down the vocal on some places but the lyrics are a bit of let down.

06. Jab Tak Hai Jaan track sung by Javed Ali & Shakthisree Gopalan - (4/5) - starts off slowly and elegantly but passes through 3 different background beats in 3:53 minutes (Piano, synthesizer drumming & dhotak) !!! But some how, it falls in place and you end up wondering why you didnt like this track in first place.

07. Saans Reprise track sung by Shreya Ghoshal comes with slower tempo, pathos tone.

08. Ishq Dance Instrumental track - (5/5) - Quite interesting with thagara dubba-va pottu adingada finish :). I think, director's cue lies somewhere in this track.

09. Jab Tak Hai Jaan (The Poem track of Aditya Chopra) versed by Shahrukh Khan - (5/5) - SRK does full justice with his lovely voice. The music is awesome and elevates the mood... you have heard it in the trailer already!

I agree that expectations were high when Yash-ji, Gulzar-ji and Rahman combination was announced. Although the, final music is not comparable to the recent Rockstar or Delhi-6 in terms of creativity it nevertheless satisfies you. After all, the commercial stakes are quite high when you have Yash-ji & SRK as combo and music matches the tone of the movie.

My favourite track was Jab Tak Hai Jaan of Javed Ali & Shakthisree Gopalan as I was not expecting the title to be used in another track and some how it enters nicely into our ears. The funny part is reserved for Shakthisree ... when she sings "bemani bathon" ... as the "bemani" is little abusive word in Tamil ... she must have smiled, I guess !

NEPV Music - Lacks Imagination

NEPV Music - Lacks Imagination

Neethaaney En Pon Vasantham music was keenly expected as it is the first of GVM and Maestro combo...
I love Raja Sir Music and there is not a day which gets passed without it. But But But ....

after listening to some 15 - 20 times., the following are my reaction !
My pick of the lot Saaindhu Saaindhu & vaanam mella;

a. NEPV is supposed to be a youthful movie... does music sound vibrant, energetic & youthful ?  I don't think so.

b. Does the music got any new creative attempts ? Sadly, No. But also involves heavy orchestration.

c. Does the music suit multi lingual attempt ? Tamil - Could work upto 60%; Telugu 30%; Hindi - Highly unlikely

d. Considering it is around 42 minutes of music and the music would play a major role in taking the movie forward... it definitely lacks the punch and finesse to lock you in the seat !

e. GVM - NEPV Lyrics give enough clue abt meet-break-meet ! Lot of people were tired after watching Trisha's tantrum in VTV., and hope you do some justice to heroine's character this time.

I missed Thamarai's lyrics bigtime on GVM movie in NEPV. Also wondering heavily about the interlude music of Saaindhu Saaindhu and trying to imagine what is in store as the director's cue !

Abt Rockstar - Music

Rahman's Rockstar album was out last week...

My opinion:

1. Can be classified as a "Priceless Album"
2. Imtiaz Ali has extracted the maximum from Rahman !!!
3. Mohit Chauhan - must have felt being in heaven for getting 9 songs.
4. Rahman transcended barrier and produced an amazing, classy album.
5. Every single track turned out to be Fabulous
6. Wonderful music arrangement and had ensemble cast to perform those in every track.
7. Impressed by meaningful lyrics ...

also wondering... 60 minutes of music ... how much going to be retained or is it going to another 3 hour movie ?

ra.one, mayakkal enna music

I am very much disappointed by the two albums...

RA.ONE:

  1. Cant understand why 8 or 9 tracks in a super hero movie ...
  2. Cant understand what a Bhare Naina kind of track in a super hero movie ...
  3. One decent tune - Chammak Chalo beaten to death with 5 versions ... by the time you come to 5th version... you wonder .... what the hell ???
  4. Raftaarin - RD re-hash, pink panther re-hash

Can't make out - So., Not making any ranking.

Mayakkam Enna

  1. Selvaragavan - G V Prakash combo; Dhanush acting again for Selva - Expectations are definitely high
  2. What you get in the end is beyond imagination !!!
  3. Drunkard tone, lyrics which are blaming girls for love related issues, kuthu tunes - these are damn bad clichés
  4. Is this people call creativity ? Are they not old enough like adam and eve ???
  5. Sorry - pissed off. Ignoring this album for sure.

KO - Music Review

Movie Name - KO
Music By Harris Jeyaraj

The less is better about the music of Ko. Harris fails to come out of his comfort zone for the N-th time. So., the album sucks big time and sounds highly repetitive, mundane.

Track List

01. Ennamo Yeadho
Aalaap Raju & Prashanthini

02. Gala Gala
Tippu, Krish, Haricharan & Sayanora Phili

03. Venpaniye
Sriram Parthasarathy & Bombay Jayshree

04. Aga Naga

Ilaignan and Melody

Ilaignan and Melody

Vidyasagar's latest Album Ilaignan has got 3 fantastic tunes. He is too good in his melodies and he surprises us with rich and grand orchestration this time. The beauty of the tunes are the multi-layered orchestration and lovely lyrics from Pa.Vijay.

1. Mazhayil Kulitha Malarvanam by Karthik, Anvesha

2. Imaithuthane by Chinmayi

3. Oru Nila Oru Kulam by Karthik, Shreya Ghoshal

I reiterate., for a music lover, whether the movie is a hit or not, whether a "star" cast is there or not does not matter. Would always support the honest attempt and committed creativity.

Live concerts and Hit songs

This post has come in place due to my confusion or dilemma ...

We all love to be part of live concerts. Nice auditorium, so many fans, orchestra etc... Finally, the singer or the main performer splits the concert into two. Some songs he wish to sing and some songs which fans fell in love with...

Every performer has got his set of hit songs... Fans to are asking for it, gets obliged.. Example - Aruna Sairam - Maadu meikkum, Pankaj Udhas - Chandi jaisa, jiyo to jiye ...

My point of confusion goes like this...

1. If we wish to listen to only some 10 songs from every singer... why dont we listen in CD, sitting in our comfy bean bag with chips & coffee ?

2. Are we afraid of experimentation of some new techniques or raga ?

3. or Is that we are being tuned to "herd mentality" ?

Do respond with your views...

Kanimozhi - Music Review

Movie Name - Kanimozhi
Music By Satheesh Chakravarthy
Overall Rating - Must Listen

1. Penne Pogadhey by Clinton Cerejo, Sam Keertham & Timothy Mdhukar - 4/5 - Typical techno track. Nicely sung by Clinton. Have shades of Rahman's Chukku bukku and Urvashi in music arrangement.

2. Muzhumadhi by Vijay Yesudas & Bela Shende - 5/5 - Haunting melody and nicely arranged. Grows steadily over every repeat listen. Decent lyrics by Na.Muthukumar.

3. Yaaro Ival Ival by Mukesh & Bela Shende - 5/5 - Robust beat, rhythm takes this normal tune to different level; Na.Muthukumar lyrics is a let down.

4. Thada Thada Endru by Clinton Cerej & Satish Chakravarthy - 5/5 - soft melody; instantly addictive fusion track. Soothing, comforting tune about heart beat and ably supported by Rap of Leon James and Na.Muthukumar's lyrics.

5. Muzhumadhi ( Instrumental) - Piano by Satish Chakravarthy, Flute by Nathan - 4/5 -decent effort.

Satheesh Chakravarthy (man behind Jillendru oru Kalavaram) comes back with a bang in his second (?) outing in Tamil. Immensely likable sound track not to be missed by music fans.

03. Irumbile Oru Idhaiyam by A. R. Rahman, Kash'n'Krissy - 3.5 /5 - techno track. wonderful lyrics by Karky - echil illa enthan mutham, sarchai indri kolvayaa? ratham illa kadhal endru othi poga solvayaa? .... Wow... but some how the track sounds bit repetitive

04. Arima Arima By Hariharan, Sadhana Sargam - 5 / 5 - Maginificiently mounted track, lovely music arrangements makes this song really addictive.

05. Kilimanjaro By Javed Ali, Chinmayi - 3.5 / 5 - Varied tempo arrangement makes this song little catchy. Typical duet could fall flat after multiple listening. Lacks the finishing punch.

06. Boom Boom Robo Da By Yogi B, Keerthi Sagathia, Swetha Mohan,Tanvi Shah - 3.5 / 5

07. Chitti Dance Showcase By Pradeep Vijay, Pravin Mani, Yogi B - 3.5 / 5 - Techno track..

Rising Star - Amit Trivedi, Music Director

As a music fan, we have a next rising star in Film Music field - Amit Trivedi.

The composer behind some of the finest albums of the recent past has got immense talent, imagination, composing skills, punch in his side. I am sure you will hear a lot about him in the next 10 years. Now, an intro on him:

Amit is based in Mumbai and started composing music in his 19-20s. He has composed background score for TV serials, Dandiyas and for McDonalds, AirTel ad jingles.

His Aamir OST had some great tracks - Ek Lau track of Aamir was extensively used by NDTV during 26/11 tributes. Phas Gaya (Never Mind) had inmpressive orchestration, instrumentation, arrangement, voice selection and originality.

Then came the stunner called Dev-D. 18 Tracks for 61m and swung across Rock, Band, Hindustani, Punjabi. No other word would describe the album as much as the cliched word "Awesome" !!! Emotional attyachar became a anthem across the Indians and no one can dispute that.

My favourite tracks of Dev-D are Emotional attayachar, paayaliya, aankh micholi. It is a sin if you have not heard this album.

Wake Up Sid had one track of him - A sufi melody called Iktara and won the female singer award in various platforms.

I cant wait to lay my hands on Udaan CD which is releasing this week.
