Will India Shine ?

India is on headlines for all the wrong reasons ... Bribery & corruption, coalition politics, lack of reforms and hurried reforms, abuse of democracy, slower economic growth etc etc.

When will India become super power ?

How do we raise our head and say proudly - We are Indians ?

When will get the quality of life which we deserve for paying 33% Income Tax ?

When will India Shine ? truly, really, nicely ?

are some of the questions I used to ponder for over last 15 years. In between, I managed to visit and work in multiple countries and observed the the way their society is built. According to me, the key points are listed below:

1. Fear for Law - that Law would punish people for their crimes committed in a reasonable period of time and the justice process ( like vaaidha, manouvering witness) cannnot be bought easily.

2. Bribery for day to day transactions must stop.

3. Responsibility and accountability of the officials of the Government - must happen and the visibility to be made public.

4. Infrastructure must help farmers, traders to move good freely in all modes of transportation - Road, Rail and Ship. Storage, shipping facilities must drastically improve.

5. Canal systems must be made workable so that Villages can benefit.

6. Above all, People should become much more responsible - they must own their actions instead of passing their mistakes - for things like usage of dust bin to paying bribes.

Without these, India can not shine like Singaore or Korea - India can be just another country who is trying to fight for their survival..... forever !

Daffodils

My dad used to tell me this poem Daffodils almost every day and he loved every bit of it.
I  never thought I will end up in U.K and see the flowers blooming in neighborhood garden during starting of spring season.
I dedicate this fine moment of life to my dear father. I miss you Dad.
Daffodils
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.

Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.

The waves beside them danced; but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay,
In such a jocund company:
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:

For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

When you lose ....

When a man loses, he loses wealth & dignity. When a country loses ???

Greece signed a second bail out treaty for 130 billion - one condition goes like this -

"As part of the deal, the Greek government has committed to enshrine into its legal framework a provision to give priority to debt service payments above all other public expenditure, including its inclusion in the Greek Constitution as soon as possible"

Is this not bad ? Who authorises the leaders to pawn their country  ? Will this not trigger another revolution ? Time will answer these questions.

For me., Live within your Limits is the moral of the story.

Policy Paralysis

Uff.... India is talked abt super power, economic future of 21st Century.... but what Congress government under the leadership of Manmohan Singh, Pranab Mukherjee and P Chidambaram did was the opposite.... they had brought major trust deficit in bring reforms, privatisation or in bringing the much needed infrastructure during the last 4 years... and the result is.... GDP is close to getting dropped to 6% instead of maintaining around 8%.

Worse is the policy paralysis..... the ruling party is not able to sell any major breakthrough to its coalition partners or to opposition - example FDI policy or Lokpal. They had time to work out issues of Lokpal... they didn't do; They surprised everyone about FDI while timing it and withdrew in haste ....

so., we are stuck with leaders who are neither visionary or charm or street smart. Sad to see the two people (PC & MMS) who learned so much under the leadership of the great P V Narasimha Rao are refusing to apply any logic into Governing this Country. God... Pls save us.

Photography as a hobby

What is life ? It is an experience and filled with mix of good and bad memories. What is the best way to capture it other than Photography ???

Buy a decent camera.... learn properly about how to take a picture., Improvise it... be a good observer.... improve over a period.... Capture your lovely moments. Share it with first circle of friends and family. I would recommend this to every individual on earth. But it is an hobby ... and stay with it.

To all the high headed individuals who think SLR should be owned only by experts, professional photographers.... Go to hell..... SLR is a commodity and every one has a right to buy and use it. They can even exhibit their pictures in gallery if they can afford it.... You don't own anything other than some abusive tweets or cribs... get on with life dumb folks...

Belly

It is official.... I have started loosening up considerably over last 18 months.... and touching a waist size of 34 !!! and my belly has come out in nice shape, clearly visible than in the past.

I have no interest in changing my food habit or exercising regularly.

Should I try fasting then ??? No... I can't stand hunger and need regular supply.

As of now., trying to recognise the existence of it !!!

Anna Hazare's detention

It is really stupid move from the CONguys to carry out this atrocious act of detention drama....

1. Anna Hazare is fighting for a movement and not carrying out any gimmick.

2. Government was never interested in a proper Lokpal. The history and survival of Lokpal offers ample supporting information about it.

3. If the Government thinks they will stand vindicated in the Court., why are they releasing within 24 hours... why can't they file a case in the Court ?

4. No answer can be given for this question which came in Twitter - Why it took so much of time to arrest Raja / Kalmadi and why it takes such a less time to decide on detaining Anna-ji even before he started protest ....

When some one protests peacefully, you provide support to it.... Simple... Hope this results in a mini revolution and we have a change of mind in the people.

USA - AAA gone

Finally., the inevitable happened over Friday night.

USA, the super power, dream land which has been screwing up its finances over last 20 years... lost its credit rating from AAA to AA+ by S & P Rating.

As our china friends puts it "The US government has to come to terms with the painful fact that the good old days when it could just borrow its way out of messes of its own making are finally gone,"

I have no faith in rating agencies... they react after the numbers are out... which are bit late and fair ... but no use to retail investors as the stock market speculators kill the prices anyway before it actually happens !!!

But I believe in one thing - One cant keep borrowing to survive. A country has to live within its means. No one can escape that over a period of time... But the biggest difficult for US is its near zero interest rates... it would be interesting to see how they recover from the part 2 of 2008 toxic cocktail crisis...

I also believe that Italy would never default during this crisis. Let us wait and see abt my prediction.

21st Century would rightfully belong to BRIC ! (Bric - Brazil, Russia, India and China) South Korea, Singapore would give accompany them in this sweet journey !!!

Chennai real estate

I am recording my views on Chennai real estate. I dont claim myself an expert and an avid follower of the trend.

Chennai has become a lovely hub of industrialisation over past 15-22 years... be it automobile, IT, manufacturing or one can consider even colleges as business houses :)

Due to the strong availability of educated, graduated youth lot of companies started setting up shop in chennai. Disadvantage - Sweat Climate, yellowish water. Barring that Chennai, had everything going in its way.

Thankfully, those got ignored post 2003 and Chennai zoomed and was leading contributor in job creation over last decade.

Chennai is very wide - OMR, Kelambakkam on one side... maraimalai nagar on other side... till Sriperumpudhur, Ranipet on third side.... Fourth side lead to Andhra pradesh !

Where to buy is the mute question ?

OMR, Maraimalai Nagar and Sriperumpudur looks good for investment opportunity. Why ? Employed people are out in full strength in those localities ! Strictly for Flats with rental income opportunity !

But my bet for next 10-18 years is on Coimbatore ! Fine city, nicely connected, decent climate and easy water and where the India's F3 car made with Maruti 800 CC Engline ! It is a place to spend after your active life / retirement than Chennai.

I predict a respectable job creation in Coimbatore. Be there to grab the opportunity and start eyeing the lands !

Pune's super growth

Pune has grown exponentially over last 3 years and continues its upward growth as it has become one of the attractive, lucrative investment opportunities for various companies.

Pune was auto hub earlier and now has attracted IT / Software in big way after marking Hinjewadi as IT Hub. Infosys, Wipro, IBM, Tech mahindra and Cognizant has huge investments.

I lived in Pimple Saudagar locality for some time. The prices per sq.ft of a flat was quoting at 3200-3400 levels in early 2010 which was quite higher than mid 2008 to early 2009 levels of 2300 - 2600. The current price per sq.ft is quoted bwn 4200-4400 levels in and around Pimple, Wakad and Dange Chowk shows the continuous demand.

What is behind the exhorbitant growth of investments ?

In my understanding, Telengana issue and its continued uncertainty has dented the attractiveness of Hyderabad. Why Pune.... ? B'coz., most of the companies had excellent offices set up at Chennai and Bangalore. They were looking to attract talent with a accomodative investment cost in mind.

Bangalore's 60min drive 6km drive inside city has made sure it lost out of new job creation battle against Delhi and Chennai over last 3 years.

Pune's real estate players took the challenge cheerfully and in the process of creating huge resedential complexes whereas the same could not be said about Government infrastructure in terms of Road, Power and Public transport.

But as of now., Pune is the winner...

Well Done Egypt

Well Done Egypt.

18 days of organised protests.... peaceful demonstrations... Gandhian principles re-instated...

What a Feel good factor generated by the oldest civilised population - by shunning out the mindless Jihadi concept !!!

Hope USA has learned some lesson... they bombarded Afghan and Iraq with non-existent WMD story.... hope they would have taken some cues.... by seeing how a country is made !!!

Egyptians enviable task ahead :

a. Transition to democratic, elected government
b. Political, Judicial and electoral reforms
c. Multi party system with credible leadership
d. Ensuring Job growth by industrialisation and tourism
e. Transparent power transfer thru election process by September

All the best. We love you Egypt. We are with you.

Gone case

Dont understand the fuzz about flag hoisting in J & K. After all., J & K state consumed enough money from GDP over many years., sacrificed many souls....

but still... one cant hoist a flag.... only privileged people can do it twice a year ... i suppose... otherwise, it is viewed as crime !

Generalists to the fore

India is run by two significant set of people.

One is IAS Officers - They are normal graduates, post graduates. Does clear hell lot of civil services / UPSC exams and gain the post. They are rotated randomly inside government over their career across various divisions and manage the show.

They are mainly generalists.... But they take decisions like running a power project or constructing a dam etc.

Second set is High Court Judges - For the past 20 years, they have a say in every big policy decision made in India... right from Caste quota or job quota, various financial fraud cases, 2G etc...

What is interesting is... Can you or me become a General Manager in say Big Bazaar, Toyota showroom ....

Mass crowd is dangerous

India's population has grown exponentially.... Infrastructure is no match for the demand. Hence, Sabarimala cannot handle 1.2 crore people in 45 days duration.

It is foolish to presume "no risk" mentality to go places like Kumbhmela, Sabarimala to quote as example... We are in a country where there is no value for life, risk, protection, organised approach, Queue system or quota system or any scientific measurement based ticketing system.

In fact, parents make the kids to follow "no footwear" in those period ... I feel like slapping their parents than kids. Senseless is the only word.

Note : I am not against going to temples but against mass visits.
